Top 5

People sometimes ask me which shows I liked the best, even which singular show I think has been the best. The question is hard, nigh on impossible to answer since the thing that makes one gig great is meaningless at the next. Everything is about the emotion at that precise moment in time when you´re standing in the audience, being blown away by the performer in front of you. Just for the heck of it though, here´s a list of 5 concerts which changed my life in a direction it might not have gone had I not seen this particular gig:

1. Return To Forever – Budapest, july 2008: The beginning of a wonderful relationship with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke and their music.

2. Jon Lord – Hamburg, february 2005: Stunningly beautiful music performed in a way that left me happily bewildered for years to come.

3. KISS – Köpenhamn, september 1988: My first *real* concert, the only time I got to see the *real* KISS i.e. the KISS that I grew up with and the KISS that couldn´t relax and rely on the past but who struggled each night to keep it up.

4. Robyn – Göteborg, august 2009: Few artists can compete with what she does, she´s an artist if there ever was one. Integrity, belief, love for what she does and respect for herself, her music and for us – the fans. I´ve been there every step of her career and I´m damn proud of it.

5. Marillion Weekend, march 2009: Three gigs three nights in a row, over 7 hours of music, the best band in the world today and GOD I wish I was back there.

There you have it. Not necessarily the best 5 gigs but probably the most important. Ah, sod it, probably the best 5 too….
